CYCLING CLUB

About

A social cycling club formed mostly from members of the Grain Peninsula Cycling Club, which sadly is no more.

We are mostly weekend warriors, riding most Saturday’s and Sunday’s, all rides adopt a ‘no drop’ policy and always take in coffee & cake stops, as well as the occasional pub stop, post ride to compare Strava stats.

All abilities and gender of cyclist are welcome to come along and join us for a ride.

We also join as a group in organised Sportives, Charity Rides and some members actively race in TT events.

And we have this year started to organise trips into France and Italy to discover the delights of cycling abroad.

WHY SUB VELO?

A few of the riders from the former Grain Peninsula Cycling Club decided to continue to ride together, those riders who were from different parts of the Medway Towns and villages decided to meet at a mutually agreed central place, which coincidentally turned out to be by the old Russian submarine moored in the River Medway in Strood.

This meeting point is where we take our new club name from, the phrase ‘meet at the sub’ was used on our Whats-app group chats as a confirmation of attendance, and hence the name was born from that phrase, kind of unique, not pinned to a town or place unless they move the sub.

The ethos of this club is that we will always try to accommodate riders of all ages and abilities, our club rides are never the same route, distance and cafe/pub stops will vary as much as possible.

We also have members that ride off-road, be that either Gravel/CX type rides or full blown MTB rides, if road riding is not your thing.

We are happy to attend organised sportive events as a club, we have had several organised day trip rides over into the North of France and have even travelled as far as Northern Italy for a week of group riding in the Ligurian Alps.

Our club structure is fluid, no one person has any position of club leader or chairman, we all contribute to making riding as a club as enjoyable as possible, and we will all pitch in when tasks and decisions about the organisation of the club is concerned.

We have British Cycling affiliation now and this has enabled several of our riders to compete in local time-trails and racing events.

Ultimately, we are a group of cycling friends that enjoy getting out and riding our bikes at every possible opportunity!
